NHS uses UBER!

Healthcare startup Cera, is teaming up with Uber to deliver patient care on the NHS’ behalf.

Launched in November this matchup will allow carers in the UK to get to the people who need them the most a lot easier. Cera announced recently a partnership with Barts Health NHS Trust. This company runs Mile End Hospital and Newham University Hospital amongst others. They will help not only carers to make their usual house visits, but also patients as they attend hospital appointments. By using this service the theory is that it will improve patient care and free up hospital beds.

Cera is also helping people remain independent by hailing an UberAssist, it will help with walkers and scooters, or an UberWAV a fully wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Uber is working Cera and not the NHS.

Nintendo Switch charging Macbook’s?!

Turns out new Macbook/Pro’s can charge your Nintendo Switch and vice versa – with some tweaking.

Now don’t worry don’t have to go editing code or taking apart your shiny new pieces of tech.

As both systems use USB-C to charge you can plug a Nintendo Switch into the Macbook Pro and, if the system is on, it will charge the Macbook Pro, but, if the system is off the Macbook Pro will charge the Switch. All you need is a USB-C to USB-C cable!

Can even use a wall charger for a MacBook/Pro to charge to switch, extra power should, theoretically charge the console faster.

Crime Fighting from a far!

This is what we like to see here at How To Kill An Hour, some really cool way to do the things that we wish we could do ten years ago.

Thanks to GPS Tracking and Remote locking a would be thief got a rude awakening (he stole the car and then slept in it)  when he stole a BMW 550i, which had been left in an underground car park with spare keys inside *facepalm* Seattle Police contacted BMW at their local head office and had it tracked, it is here where Seattle Police found the culprit asleep in the vehicle – had it remotely locked and then woke him up.

They then blocked him in so he couldn’t drive off (he tried to) and arrested him.

Hooray for technology! Just hopefully the owner remembers to not put spare keys to his car, in his car.

Human Vibrator?!

One day we may be able to have a vibrating dildo/penis combo that will rock your partners socks off! According to Rich Lee that is.

Lee is a grinder, which is a member of a niche community of biohackers pushing the limits of what people can implant into their bodies. He has tiny magnets in his ear which work as earphones, he has magnets in his fingers, they don’t do anything useful its just for fun. He has an implant to guage his temperature and also a NFC piece of tech that he uses alongside a text to speech app to make his phone read him articles before bed. Lee’s next experiment? To small vibrating implant inside his penis, just below the skin to bring pleasure to the opposite sex, the device otherwise known as the LoveTron 9000. He see’s all of the implants as self improvement rather than mutation.

“Someday I’d like to live in a world where everything you’re dealt is changeable, fluid,” Lee told me. “My conception of an ideal self is something like a Mr. Potato Head, where I can just swap in and out different prosthetics for different senses and abilities.”

Ultra Realistic Sex Robots?!

As tech evolves, ways for us to get off evolve too and that is exactly what is happening with sex robots. Now they’re so erm…good that they can potentially, apparently fall in love with you.

Launching in April this year, Matt McMullen, the boss of Cyborg brand Realbotix will release a fleet of sex dolls that will apparently be ‘mind blowing’ in bed….

Matt said:

Emotional connections are the foundations of relationships and that’s what we are simulating.

And it’s emotions which add the X Factor to sex. I think two people can meet in a bar, have sex the same night and not remember each other’s names and say well that was fun.

But that’s different sex than when you actually get to know someone and you bond with them intellectually and emotionally.

You long for each other and maybe you wait for sex. It is the deeper connection we all crave……

The A.I. is prone to falling in love with you. But it will depend very much on the selections you’ve made.

The traits will have a lot to do with how it will play out. She will say things you are not expecting.

It’s really exciting to see where it will take us next.

The robots are said to have unpredictable yet charming tendencies that have great memories but also have a rather scary ‘surprise factor’ built in. On top of all that you can set your new sex robot lady friend to have 1 of 12 different personality traits be that sexual, kind, naive or intellectual. Strangely you can even set the strength of your sex toy on a scale of 1 to 3.

You can even set up an account an access an app which after a few months after purchase will sync with ‘her’ (I guess) and the ‘PULSE’ programme begins, promising to give a mind-blowing encounter and according to the Daily Star a yearly subscription to this app will be available from $20.

If you were wondering. The price of one of these dolls is said to be $6K.

NASA Space Suit

There are brand new space suits for astronauts flying NASA Missions on Boeing’s Starliner! They are really fashionable and come with a decent set of integrated shoe’s (Which look like trainers too!) It’s lighter and a lot more comfortable spacesuits than previous suits! Plus they:

  • Are tailored for each astronaut.
  • Helmet and visor incorporated into the suit instead of detachable
  • Come equipped with gloves for modern touch screens.
  • Can be pressurised in an emergency.
  • Protect Astronauts better in an emergency.
  • Protect Astronauts in launch, in flight and on return!
  • weighs about 20 pounds – about 10 pounds lighter than the launch-and-entry suits worn by space shuttle astronauts.
  • The material lets water vapor pass out of the suit and away from the astronaut but keeps air inside. Making it cooler and safe.

US Army Star Wars Hoverbike?!

The US Army have tested a hover bike that could one day be used in combat…..but don’t get your hopes up for a Star Wars esque type land cruiser, this type of hover bike is designed to drop aid, equipment and supplies to troops and the needy in a war zone.

The US Army saw the campaign for this concept on Kickstarter and got in touch with UK based company Malloy Aeronautics and now they’re working together on this project to build a much bigger version of their original concept being dubbed the “Joint Tactical Aerial ReSupply Vehicle” It is planned to fly up to 125miles at 60mph with a load of 800lbs.

In a video on Mashable the hoverbike was nothing more than a small drone. However on Malloy Aeronautics website it has seen to be manned! What comes of this remains to be seen but this looks very exciting! See video below:

South Korea Super Train

South Korea could soon have some transportation that moves close to the speed of sound! The Korean Railroad Research Insititute are working on their own hyper-loop esque train that could travel at 621mph or 1,000kph and will be ready in the near future.

The train could move travelers between Seoul and Busan a trip that takes about 50mins by plane or over 5hours on public transport in just half hour, the train can go so fast as there isn’t any friction!

Compared to the Hyperloop which travels at speeds up to 800mph (1,300km/h) this train has a bit of work to do to catch up. However it seems the South Korean train could be ready before the Hyperloop, so it remains to be seen which one is better!

VR Models!

An incredibly detailed piece of art was created recently entirely in VR and printed out via a 3D printer and the results are incredible.

Oculus Character artist Giovanni Nakpil posted an image of an amazingly detailed 3d printed model of an ogre that was modelled entirely in Oculus Medium, a VR Sculpting App. The model had exquisite detail and subtle colur graduations that left people stunned and some questioning if it had indeed been made entirely in VR on an app.

Nakpil said to Mashable:

“I did not do any sanding or any post-print work whatsoever,” says Nakpil, when asked if there were any post-3D printing touch-ups or sanding. “The smooth nature of the print comes from the resolution of the Medium model as well as the high-resolution settings from the 3D printer.”

To achieve such incredible detail Giovanni had to use a state of the art 3D printer, the Stratasys J750,  that is described as being one of the best in the world. It produces up to 350,000 colours and the company Stratasys have stated that it is “the world’s first full-color, multi-material 3D printer”
