WoeBot

WoeBot a chatbot available only on Facebook Messenger is a therapeutic chatbot designed and created by a team of Stanford psychologists and AI experts and doesn’t show any personal information publically via the newsfeed.

A session with WoeBot is free for 14 sessions, then you can either pay weekly ($12), Monthly ($39) or annually ($312)

Silicon Valley is developing chatbots to help cure and treat mental disorders like depression, with studies already showing hope that therapy via a chatbot may work.

During a trial at Stanford, students aged 18-28 showed reductions in anxiety and depression when they used the Woebot for 2 weeks.

As many of those suffering from anxiety or depression cannot afford to see a therapist and pay for prescribed medications it is here where Woebot steps in and where Silicon Valley hope will help cure many of those who have the mental disorder.

Woebot is conversational and is appropriate for those aged 18 and older, if you’re younger you need a parents permission to sign up for it.

It can track moods, which are displayed weekly via graphs, looking for patterns that are out of the norm, learning its user via the amount of conversations they have. Woebot also has the ability ability to teach via cognitive behavioural therapy. (A structured talk therapy which normally lasts a few sessions)

Memory Implants are Almost here!

The idea of a chip that allows record and replay memories may seem farfetched, Apple believe it soon will become reality.

During a TED talk in Vancouver Tom Gruber co-creator of Siri said:

“I believe AI will make personal memory enhancement a reality. I think it’s inevitable.”

Konbini are reporting that companies from all across Silicon Valley are working on designing telepathic AI that would allow such feats.

It’s hoped that tech like this would help in law suits and in the courts with things like assault, sexual assault and other crimes, acting as irrefutable evidence. While this is good, there is the worry of privacy and how ‘memories’ could be kept insanely secure (nothing can beat it being solely in your mind though eh?) To this privacy worry Gruber stated:

“We get to chose what is and is not recalled and retained. It’s absolutely essential that this be kept very secure.”

He’s spitballing of course, but we shall see what happens in the future.

Would you get an implant?

What memory would you like to re-see?

What memory wouldn’t you like to see again?

What memory would you delete?

Are we all going to become cyborgs?

Google Turns Raspberry Pi Smart!

Raspberry Pi is about to get really smart, they have teamed up with Google to bring voice integration to their product, with a very smart combination of hardware and software. So smart in fact this little DIY kit brings all the fancy powers that the Google Home has to the Raspberry Pi 3.

However…..the pack contains a Voice HAT (Hardware Accessory on Top, a HAT is any piece of physical hardware that is added to the Pi motherboard) board with a speaker and a microphone, giving Pi owners everything they need to add-in voice integration.

The only way to get the HAT board is to buy the latest issue of the company’s official magazine The MagPi, where it comes as a freebie.

WHAT IS A RASPBERRY PI?

A Raspberry Pi is a credit card-sized computer originally designed for education, inspired by the 1981 BBC Micro. … The Raspberry Pi is slower than a modern laptop or desktop but is still a complete Linux computer and can provide all the expected abilities that implies, at a low-power consumption level. https://opensource.com/resources/what-raspberry-pi

Siri Speaker

Apple could announce their own take on the Amazon Echo at this years WWDC in June according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. A Speaker with integrated Siri basically. With superior sound and computing power than that of Amazon’s Echo and Google’s Home, with an end of year release date. This isn’t the first time an analyst had predicted this, leaker Sonny Dickinson has also predicted that the Siri Speaker will make an appearance at WWDC.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise Apple want to dip their toes into this market with the improvement of HomeKit and the continued growth of Apple Music. We shall see in June. (Maybe)
