Amazon shop problem?!
/in Future, Gadgets / Tech/by billywrightAmazon shop – Amazon Go is in a spot of bother. A report out of seattle claims that Amazon Go is encountering some pretty big technical issues. It gets confused when people shop – more than 20 people to be exact.
Which puts the whole ‘just walk out’ theory into chaos. An unnamed source told the Wallstreet journal that:
Amazon has run into problems tracking more than about 20 people in the store at one time, as well as the difficulty of keeping tabs on an item if it has been moved from its specific spot on the shelf. For now, the technology functions flawlessly only if there are a small number of customers present, or when their movements are slow.
Well. It’s not a great start. If this comes from concept to reality we may have to wait a bit longer.

Moon Delivery
/in Future, Gadgets / Tech/by billywrightJeff Bezos’ (Amazon Boss) Blue Origin (Amazon’s Spaceflight company) plan to develop a spacecraft called Blue Moon, to launch an Amazon like service to deliver the equipment needed to establish human settlements on the moon by the mid 2020’s, with the craft apparently carrying up to 10,000lbs of cargo.
Blue Origin has experience launching its own “New Shepard” rockets into space, the Blue Moon is apparently similar and will launch vertically and land on the moon’s south pole, as it has continuous sunlight which the spacecraft’s solar panels will utilise, this side of the moon is also rich in water, which the Blue Moon would transform into rocket fuel.
Bezos hopes the mission will launch in 2020, but only with the help of NASA.

Amazon Opens More Book Stores!
/in Books, Entertainment, Technology/by billywrightIf opening a physical store wasn’t interesting enough, Amazon is adding to its fleet of Amazon Book stores already in use.
Amazon told the Wallstreet Journal in an email that they are opening a bookstore in Manhattan sometime this spring. Located at Time Warner Center in Midtown at the edge of Central Park.
In an ironic twist of fate Amazon may have been tempted by such a location as Manhattan rent prices are dropping due to online stores.
Amazon currently has three bookstores located at Seattle, Portland and San Diego. As well as this new one in Manhattan there are also plans for two more, Chicago and Massachusetts.
Amazon’s books are cheaper in it’s physical stores rather than online, but unsurprisingly enough you can sign up for a prime membership in store.

Amazon Supermarkets!
/in Gadgets / Tech, Technology/by billywrightAmazon are testing a radical new concept for the supermarket.
Amazon’s crazy idea eliminates any requirement for any cashiers (say goodbye to those annoying self service checkouts!) simply tap in (similar to how you would tap in to the train station in London via an Oyster card) grab whatever food you need and then walk out. You are then billed to your Amazon account on your departure.
Available only in Seattle at the moment and you can only try it if you’re an Amazon employee or beta tester, public trials are scheduled to start sometime in 2017.
Amazon said in a press release:
“Our Just Walk Out technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart.”
