Drone Near Misses!

Heathrow is apparently a hive for people flying their drones near planes. According to the latest report from UK’s Airprox Board, 3 planes narrowly missed drones last year.

Two of the three were classified as “category A” – one incident, the drone was below the plane’s right wing at 10,000 feet (9,600 feet above legal altitude for drones in the UK)

Second incident, a pilot taking off from Heathrow saw a drone 150ft away from his wing at 3,000ft.

Third incident was less dangerous but still came within 200 ft of an aircraft.

According to investigators, the drones in these incidents are custom made and not able to be bought off the shelf.

Overall the report discusses 70 near misses in 2016 up from 29 in 2015.

Facebook’s own futuristic hardware division called “Building 8” are said to be behind a “Brain Computer Interface” which was hinted at by Mark Zuckerberg, which would allow users to share information telepathically.

The Facebook CEO described in a Q&A to allow people to “capture a thought, what you’re thinking or feeling in kind of its ideal and perfect form in your head, and be able to share that with the world”.

According to Business insider this interface is said to be unveiled at Facebook’s developer conference in April, alongside a drone, an augmented reality device and a medical project being led by “an interventional cardiologist from Stanford with expertise in early-stage medical device development”.

US Army Star Wars Hoverbike?!

The US Army have tested a hover bike that could one day be used in combat…..but don’t get your hopes up for a Star Wars esque type land cruiser, this type of hover bike is designed to drop aid, equipment and supplies to troops and the needy in a war zone.

The US Army saw the campaign for this concept on Kickstarter and got in touch with UK based company Malloy Aeronautics and now they’re working together on this project to build a much bigger version of their original concept being dubbed the “Joint Tactical Aerial ReSupply Vehicle” It is planned to fly up to 125miles at 60mph with a load of 800lbs.

In a video on Mashable the hoverbike was nothing more than a small drone. However on Malloy Aeronautics website it has seen to be manned! What comes of this remains to be seen but this looks very exciting! See video below:
