/in Entertainment, Technology/by billywright2007 is all but a decade ago. A DECADE AGO!

I’m still waiting for this!
“You’re rushed to a hospital unconscious with no ID or medical history. But, thanks to a microchip under your skin, it’s all there.”

Super Mario Run Online Only?!
/in Entertainment, Games/by billywrightIt looks like Super Mario Run (hitting stores on December 15th at £10 and we cannot wait!) will only work if your iOS device is connected to the internet due to privacy concerns! One of the main reasons for this being that Nintendo The are worried about the game being released firstly in so many countries and secondly on devices that they don’t have any control over and problems over all modes working together.
Nintendo apparently tried to create a work around and have just the World Tour available offline but this caused many problems with other game modes in the app like the Toad Rally.
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto said:
“We wanted to be able to leverage that network connection with all three of the modes to keep all of the modes functioning together and offering the game in a way that keeps the software secure…..This is something that we want to continue to work on as we continue to develop the game.”
See below Nintendo’s full statement.

Nintendo full statement:
Online connectivity allows us to offer a variety of features and services that enhance the play experience. Super Mario Run is not a static experience, but rather one that players can continue to return to again and again to enjoy something new and unexpected. For example, online connectivity can offer the following:
- Access to other users’ play data and scores for automatically generated Toad Rally challenges.
- In-game events that will offer players new challenges and rewards for a limited time.
- Linkage to Nintendo Account to access save data from multiple devices. For example, if players have Super Mario Run on their iPhone and iPad, they can share one save file across the different devices. However, this save data cannot be used with different devices at the same time.
@SavedYouAClick fighting Fake News!
/in Entertainment, Technology/by billywrightIf you weren’t aware of Twitters ‘@SavedYouAClick’ account, the account says what it does on the tin and “Saves You A Click” from click baiting headlines and URL’s in a quick snappy headline.
The person behind this god like account, Jack Beckman, is now fighting against the next worst thing on the internet, ‘Fake News’ In an age where ‘Fake News’ can account for a candidate winning the Presidency of the United States we need someone to filter out the fake from the truth and Beckman is here to help with that. As a whole news media is arguably broken, fake news spreads like wildfire (if done well) and across multiple platforms, be that questionable Facebook pages and websites designed to look exactly like a reputable news outlet.
Beckman has created a new Twitter page, a sister page if you will “@SavedYouATrick” designed to tackle fake news and he has already began debunking a bunch of fake news articles and sites, many of which are either intentionally misleading or outright wrong – however, Beckman will not be touching satire news articles and sites.

VR helping the sick
/in Gadgets, Gadgets / Tech/by billywrightVR may be fully in the gaming industry at the moment but it may well be in your hospital bed, should you ever be needing medical treatment or therapy.
A VR experience called Joy is being tested for its ability to make long staying hospital patients feel less lonely during their stay at the hospital. It is the baby of Australian VR company ‘Liminal’ and has been commissioned by a health insurance company called Medibank. Linda Swan of Medibank told Mashable that she believes that loneliness is linked to slower recovery times and an increased risk of further disease.
Joy utilises Google Daydream view and it’s controller to sit in an experience which shows users in a circle around a campfire surrounded by cartoon figures, users can then select a story form a book which then a character will read aloud to you.
Even though this experience sounds quite childlike and is at risk of alienating a lot of patients, Linda Swan stated that they are trying to appeal to as many people as possible with their VR experience. The experience is limited to those who are bed bound which is why the experience has very minimal levels of interactivity with the world that patients are transported to. This is because of the environment of where they are located and being mindful of the patients that would be using this product. This is also the reason to why the team decided to go with mobile VR technology rather than room scale technology VR.
After a trial at Brunswick Private Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, Medibank will decide if the program should be rolled out more broadly as part of its range of health services.
