Google Ad Block

Google Ad-Blockers

Google are currently working on an ad-blocker called ‘Funding Choices’.

Ad-blocking programs are designed to protect consumers from the intrusive web ads that slow down browsers and suck up personal data.

Majority of publishes and producers rely on advertising revenue, so the ad-blockers take ‘a big toll on their companies. So giving the consumers the option to pay for ad-blocking would cover these expenses.

Recent figures from Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) show that 22% of UK adults use ad-blocking services online and in 2016 alone, the service Ad Blocker Plus claimed to have over 100 million active users worldwide.

Facebook Broken

Is Facebook Broken?

Is Facebook learning what you like and manipulating the posts you see?

Have you noticed that you are only shown a handful of your friends post on Facebook? Well that is because Facebook learns what you like and actually influences you to connect closer with certain people. Say for example, you ‘like’ a post or picture of pizza, if you ‘like’ several pictures of pizza it is more than likely that your Facebook feed will start to show you more pictures of pizza. Or the more you engage with posts from a particular user, the more often their posts are shown to you.

Facebook creates a small ‘in-group’ cluster of Facebook friends and topics that dominate your feed, as you grow accustomed to interacting with them, this changes your behaviour, leading you to interacting with them all the more. This then reinforces their ‘in-group’ status and basically isolates you from the rest of your Facebook friends.. or the ‘out-group’.

Strange huh!

Toyota Flying Car

Flying Car Toyota Test Drive

Back in 2014, in Tokyo, a group of around 30 engineers, including Toyota employees, started to develop ‘SkyDrive’ flying car.

The head of the group, Tsubasa Nakamura, said that the group expects to conduct the first manned-flight by the end of 2018 as the aim is to have the car ready for the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo to drive/fly in and light the torch.

During the demonstration, the current test model was able to lift off the ground and float in the air for a few seconds, it then looses balance and crashes. The design needs more stability to be able to get the car high enough and fly for a longer amount of time to reach the Olympic flame!
