Facebook fighting Revenge Porn!

Facebook will use photo-matching technology to fight against revenge porn by identifying them with the tool and then removing the content.

Specially trained members of Facebook’s Community Operations team will be in charge of reviewing images and suspending accounts. Additionally Facebook users can also notify Facebook if they are suspect that a graphic image has been shared without permission by clicking report on the image.

In April 2015 it was made an offence in England and Wales to share private sexual images or video without the subject’s consent.

Burger King Sabotaged!

In the US a 15 second Burger King advert that included a BK employee asking “OK, Google. What is the Whopper burger?” was highjacked by the public. It was intended to activate Google Home smart speakers and some Android phones, triggering the devices to read out information about the burgers from online encyclopaedia Wikipedia.

Crafty members of the public edited Wikipedia to describe the Whopper as the “worst hamburger product” and another added cyanide to the list of ingredients. However Wikipedia have come under fire after reports that BK’s own marketing team edited their Whopper page before the ad ran.

The BBC understands the ad was blocked but BK later ran a tweaked version on US TV.

F**k the Game

We played a really cool card game that plays a bit better if you’ve had a drink or two!

F**k. The Game is a hilarious new Aussie card game which will help you get smarter while swearing at your friends.

HOW DO YOU PLAY?

This is a great social card game that will f**k with your head by using a hysterically tricky combination of colours and swear words:

  • Players take turns to flip over a card and shout out what they see.
  • Depending on your card, you might say its background colour, its text colour or a swear word.
  • Keep playing until someone f**ks up and is forced to pick up all the cards.
  • The winner is the first player to get rid of their cards.

It sounds simple, but the cards use a psychological phenomenon – the Stroop effect – known to mess with your head and delay your brain’s response. Players can’t help but f**k up, sending the group into fits of laughter.
Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can take the game to a whole new level with more rules, more strategy and you can even create your own rules.

Huawei chief questions Smartwatches

Eric Xu, CEO of Chinese tech firm Huawei has said he doesn’t see the point in smartwatches.

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, he responded to a question about smartphones longevity due to the rise of wearables:

Mr Xu said: “I’ve never figured out why we need to wear smartwatches when everything we need is on our phones….I’m not a man who wears watches, and I’ve never been optimistic about this market.”

Controversial but others have shared a different approach to Smartwatches:

“Smartwatches are a solution looking for a problem, rather than being a game-changer,” Ben Wood, an analyst at tech consultancy CCS Insight told the BBC, adding “2017 is a pivotal year for smartwatches with lots of new launches at the end of this year. That doesn’t guarantee success, but with a lot of them, we’ll see if people want them.”

What do they have to do to make them go mainstream?

Do you see the point of them?

Are they more of a companion piece of tech than a must have?

What features would you put on them to turn it into a must have item?
