GIANT ROBOTS PARTROL NORTH KOREA!

South Korean robotics firm Hankook Mirae Technology have created a really cool manned giant robot called Method-2! Weighing in at 1.5 tons the machine has drawn comparisons with the Amplified Mobility Platform suit in blockbuster Avatar and is built to work in extreme hazardous areas where humans cannot go or construction sites and even military purposes.

It stands at 13 Feet tall and took only 12months to get to where it is today and if rumours are to believed is acting as a warning to North Korea and Kim Jong-Un – potentially appearing at the North/South Korean border.

However as cool as this looks and sounds the robot is very young in development and can only take very small steps due to it having balance and power problems.

Hanbook plan to have the final version of Method-2 ready for potential buyers by the end of 2017 and is expected to sell for around £6.8 million.

Apple AR Glasses?!

According to Tech Journalist Robert Scoble Apple are working on an AR set of smart glasses with German lens specialist Carl Zeiss to bring AR to the masses in 2017.

Scoble has written of Apple’s VR plans before back in November he said that Apple were planning on building a PrimeSense sensor right into the TV and into the iPad/iPhone to create some sort of mixed reality.  Primesense are a 3D sensing company, the same company who created the original Xbox Kinect – Apple acquired them in 2013.

Tim Cook has spoke of AR in the past calling that AR will be bigger business in the long term than VR,Cook told Good Morning America in Septembe:

“There’s virtual reality and there’s augmented reality – both of these are incredibly interesting…….But my own view is that augmented reality is the larger of the two, probably by far…..Virtual reality sort of encloses and immerses the person into an experience that can be really cool but probably has a lower commercial interest over time. Less people will be interested in that.”

Nintendo Charge grip gets pricey!

The guys recently chatted about the Nintendo Switch and as they said it is a little pricey, the console doesn’t even have a game with it.

Now every Nintendo Switch comes with a Joy-Con Grip accesory that holds the two Joy-Con controllers so it forms a controller similar to a regular game pad……….but it won’t charge them. To charge them whilst you’re playing you got to pay for a much pricier accessory called the Joy Con Charging Grip which costs $29.99!

They look different but also the same the only difference is that the switch box on the non charging one is opaque with a matte gray finish while the charging version is gray but translucent.

You don’t need the charging grip to keep the controllers powered, they will charge whilst connected to the Switch unit – there just doesn’t seem to be an option on the Joy Con controllers to plug them directly into a USB power outlet – which is annoying at best.

The Joy Con controllers have a non-removable 525 mAh battery that will last for approximately 20 hours & whether the pads are in a Charging Grip or connected to a Switch, to fully charge them from completely flat to full it will take three hours!

apple tv to rival netflix

Apple wages war on Netflix streaming service

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Apple Music service are planning to add original video content to their service to help gain more subscribers.

This has been rumoured for a long time. It seems that Apple is now starting to reach out to Hollywood producers and are planning to add original content by the end of this year.

Apple are apparently trying to create some hard hitting original content like Westworld and Stranger Things.  There will be original movies potentially appearing later on down the line if the Tv Shows are a success.

There’s no news as to what type of shows that the big fruit seem to be planning due to how tight lipped they are with things usually.  This is kind of a surprise but kind of isn’t. Apple recently released a documentary. It was called 808: The Movie and narrated by Zane Lowe. So there were some signs! Apple acquired the rights to broadcast their own 30 minute series of James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke. Also the company are planning a semi-autobiographical documentary series. One called ‘Vital Signs’ starring Dr Dre which is due out on Apple Music this year.

So this new venture see’s Apple’s first step outside of music related video content. How will they do?

Digital Video outsells Physical Video!

The inevitable happened and in 2016 streaming and downloadable video outsold DVD’s and Blu Rays for the first time in 2016.

Based on data from The Official Charts Company DVD and Blu Ray sales dropped by 17% year on year, (£1Billion – £894Million) Digital sales grew from £250M to £1.3billion according to estimates from market research firm IHS!!

Places like Netflix and Amazon churning out insanely good original content it’s no surprise that digital sales grew by so much and with them continuing to put more money into original content the sales will only continue to grow. Not only that places like Sky Store and Wuaki.tv also means you don’t even have to wait for the latest releases to hit Netflix you can rent them upon day of release!

Smartwatch will tell you when you’re getting ill!

That smartwatch on your wrist may have just got a little bit smarter – they’ll be able to tell you when you’re getting ill before you actually do, according to US scientists.

Researchers made an app called “Change of Heart” which tracked health data, such as your heart rate, then used 60 people to conduct a study for up to two years and found that the stats changed from the baseline, when they were falling ill.

These stats are very important as the researchers say that with this data they could potentially help to develop an app which will detect things such as type 2 diabetes and in the study the app detected very early signs of Lyme disease in one of the scientists behind the study.

As the devices are constantly measuring our vitals they can often give a quick up to date information and your doctor (we presume) would have access to these stats they could detect not only things like the common cold but the onset of diseases due to small undetectable changes in your physiology.

If this comes to fruition a combination of a smartwatch to detect the changes and a smartphone to act as a health dashboard could save plenty of lives in years to come!
